Star employees will take a big hit

Dateline: Tue 21 Jun 2011

Layoffs are underway at the Indianapolis Star today.

The word is that this will be big, maybe the largest number of layoffs to date.

Blog readers join me, I know, in a show of empathy for those affected.

But never forget: there is life after the Star.

I'm also told that Lesley Stedman Weidenbener at the Courier-Journal was laid off. Probably means that Gannett paper will no longer have a Statehouse presence.

Advertising also took quite a hit. Melissa Kiefer, Dustin Urbanski, Renee Knox, and several others who have not been notified yet because they are on vacation. Tim Newbrough was also let go from Marketing was also axed. There were 11 total.

Believe me, you are all better off. Life is so much better after the Star.
They should just shut the doors and get it over with.
